Harvest 2021 at Lexington Valley Vineyard
Hi there! We are incredibly excited (and thankful) that you will be joining us for harvest this year at Lexington Valley Vineyard! Below are a few pieces of information to help you plan for harvest day:
Getting to the vineyard
The vineyard is located at 80 Norton Way, Rockbridge Baths, VA 24473.
We do not recommend using your GPS to navigate all the way to the vineyard (unless you want to have a very “back road” driving experience). Instead, use your GPS to get close, but once you are on I-64 or in downtown Lexington, use the following directions to make the final part of the drive:
-
From Lexington: Nelson St./Rt. 60 West to right on Big Spring Rd./Rt. 631. Big Spring Rd to left on Bethany Rd. Bethany Rd. to left on Turkey Hill Rd. Follow Turkey Hill Rd. 1.3 miles to Lexington Valley Vineyard.
-
From I-64: Take I-64 to Exit 50 / Kerr's Creek. Follow Rt. 60 East toward Lexington. Left on Big Spring Rd. to left on Bethany Rd. Follow Bethany to left on Turkey Hill Rd. On Turkey Hill Rd. go 1.3 miles to Norton Way. Turn right on Norton Way to Lexington Valley Vineyard.
-
From Rockbridge Baths: Rt. 39 to Rockbridge Baths. Turn onto Turkey Hill Rd. at Maury River Bridge in Rockbridge Baths. Go approximately 4.5 miles on Turkey Hill Road to Norton Way. Turn left on Norton Way to Lexington Valley Vineyard.
When you do arrive, please drive down Norton Way past the tasting room/parking lot, and continue to the top of the hill. You’ll see the Norton vineyard on your right and there is plenty of parking in the grass right off the driveway.
What to bring/what to expect
The Norton vines are vigorous and so the vineyard can be a little “jungle like” during harvest. We have hedged and mowed, but expect some tall grass here and there, and lots of foliage.
We recommend wearing jeans/pants and long socks (so you can tuck in your pant legs) as well as a long sleeved shirt. For footwear, a pair of old sneakers or work boots are probably your best bet. We also recommend bringing sunglasses, a hat, and some sunscreen.
We’ll start harvesting at around 9:30/10:00 AM. Don’t worry, we’ll give you a crash course and you’ll find that picking grapes is super easy. We break for lunch around 12:30 (pizza and wine/beer/sodas/water are on us!) and then pick for another couple hours until we have filled the lugs to get the grapes we need. With the number of people helping with harvest, we expect that we’ll knock this out pretty fast!
At the end of the day, stop by the winery, relax and enjoy some wine—you will have certainly earned it!
